Our Philosophy

Brisbane Plants and Landscaping Palm Tree

At Vine & Stone, we believe that outdoor spaces should feel as intentional and expressive as the interiors they surround. Whether it’s a quiet courtyard, a lush family garden, or a bold architectural landscape, our work is grounded in three guiding principles:

  • Form meets function: A beautiful garden should also work beautifully. We design for real life — movement, weather, children, animals, meals, rest, growth.

  • Collaboration is key: We work closely with you to bring your vision to life. Every step is collaborative — from mood board to mulch.

  • Respect for place: We choose plants, materials, and construction methods that complement the Brisbane climate, celebrate the local environment, while delivering
    on our clients’ wishes.

Meet The Team

With over 17 years of experience in the design and construction industry, Jason brings a depth of knowledge and passion that’s been honed across Australia and New Zealand. His journey as a landscape designer began on the tools, evolved through senior roles, and found its truest expression in Elevation Landscapes — his former design, build, and maintenance company in Auckland.

At the helm of Elevation Landscapes, Jason personally managed projects ranging from $30,000 to $500,000 in value, across residential, commercial, and educational spaces. His leadership drove the company’s growth to nearly $2 million in annual revenue within just two years. During this time, he developed a strong reputation for delivering high-end, end-to-end solutions — from initial consultation and design concepts to on-site project management and client handover.

Now based in Brisbane, Jason brings that same entrepreneurial spirit and technical mastery to Vine & Stone. He leads the creative visioning and design process while also taking a hands-on role in developing strong, lasting relationships with each client. He believes great design begins with deep listening — understanding a client’s lifestyle, values, and aspirations, and translating those into elegant, functional outdoor spaces.

From initial sketch to final planting plan, Jason’s expertise spans concept development, detailed construction documentation, planting plans, 3D visualisations, and design presentations. He is also highly experienced in quoting, procurement, and site coordination — ensuring that each project is as well-managed as it is well-designed.

With a portfolio that includes award-winning residential landscapes, childcare centre outdoor environments, and high-end bespoke gardens, Jason’s work is known for its balance of creativity, practicality, and enduring quality.

With a background in counselling, program development, administration, and community leadership, Valarie brings a unique and versatile skillset to Vine & Stone. She oversees the operational and creative processes behind the scenes — ensuring projects run smoothly, systems are clear, and every touchpoint of the client experience is supportive, thoughtful, and easy to navigate.

Valarie’s role encompasses business administration, website and content development, marketing, client communications, and project management. She also contributes to design aesthetics and concept development, offering a client-focused lens grounded in empathy, storytelling, and user experience.

Drawing on her professional experience managing complex workloads, leading initiatives, and supporting individual growth, Valarie ensures that Vine & Stone maintains its high standard of professionalism without losing its personal touch. Her background in mental health and community work adds depth to our approach — helping us build respectful, trusting relationships with our clients from day one.

Why Choose Us?

Boutique Service

At Vine & Stone, we offer a hands-on, deeply personalised approach to landscape design. As a small, two-person studio, we take on a select number of projects at a time so that each client receives our full attention and care. From the first enquiry to the final plant in the ground, you’ll be working directly with us — the directors and designers. There’s no middle management, no layers of communication to navigate, and no risk of your vision being lost in translation.

We pride ourselves on building real relationships with our clients. We listen, we ask the right questions, and we adapt as your ideas evolve. Whether you have a crystal-clear vision or a vague sense of wanting “something that feels right,” we’re here to bring clarity, creativity, and guidance every step of the way. You’ll always know where things stand, who to contact, and what’s coming next. That kind of transparency and consistency is rare — and it’s exactly what we offer.

Real Experience

Jason brings over 17 years of hands-on experience in landscape design, construction, and project management — including founding and running a successful design-and-build company in New Zealand. He has led complex residential, commercial, and educational landscape projects from concept to completion, managing both the creative vision and the practical logistics behind the scenes. His work is grounded in a deep understanding of how outdoor spaces function, age, and evolve over time.

This practical knowledge means we don’t just draw beautiful ideas — we design spaces that are realistic, buildable, and suited to real life. We anticipate construction challenges, material considerations, and climate factors from day one, saving you time, money, and stress later on. Jason’s technical design skills are supported by his deep plant knowledge and years of on-site problem solving. Combined with Valarie’s organisational and client support strengths, our experience allows us to approach each project with confidence, foresight, and professionalism.

Whether you’re building from scratch or reshaping an existing space, our experience ensures you’ll be supported by expertise you can trust.

A Holistic Approach

At Vine & Stone, landscape design isn’t just about plants and paving — it’s about how your outdoor space supports the way you live. That’s why we take a holistic approach to every project, considering not only the design itself, but also the flow, function, and feel of the space. We ask questions like: How do you want to use your yard at different times of day? What materials feel good to walk on barefoot? What’s practical with your kids or pets? These details matter — and they shape everything we create.

Our work is a true collaboration between Jason’s design expertise and Valarie’s eye for mood, flow, and little details. Together, we weave together form, function, and feeling. We think about light, privacy, movement, safety, sustainability, and maintenance. And we guide you through each step, from initial ideas to final decisions.

Because we manage everything in-house — design, documentation, client support, and consultation — you benefit from a unified vision. The end result isn’t just a collection of design elements; it’s a cohesive, intentional landscape that enhances your lifestyle and connects you to your home in new and meaningful ways.
