Manly 2 is a refined residential landscape design that balances urban sophistication with coastal subtropical charm. Designed by a lead creative at Vine & Stone, this project reimagines an inner-city Brisbane block with layered greenery, sculptural lines, and tactile materials to complement the architectural language of the home.
The brief called for a tranquil and private retreat, maximising the narrow lot without compromising flow or liveability. The design response is driven by clean geometry and rhythm. A feature creeper-clad wall flanks a sculptural entry path composed of oversized concrete steppers with groundcover breaking through the joints—softening the transition between built form and garden.
A key feature of the backyard is the recessed pool area, enveloped by raised planters and cascading foliage. Here, structured pleached trees provide privacy while textured underplanting—including blue-toned Dichondra and flowering subtropicals—bring softness and movement. Focal plants with architectural form contrast with more delicate layers, showcasing a restrained and elegant palette.
The outdoor dining and lounge zone is finished in natural grey stone with timber furnishings that offer warmth and versatility. Planting spills gently into view, blurring boundaries between hardscape and softscape. Vertical screening elements provide privacy without sacrificing airflow or light.
This project exemplifies Vine & Stone’s ethos—where thoughtful planting, curated materiality, and a strong connection between indoor and outdoor spaces come together in perfect harmony. Manly 2 is not just a garden, but a liveable landscape designed to age gracefully and evolve with its occupants.
